Skirmish of Umberkhind occurred on 2-February-1661 in the Mountain Ranges of Sahyadris. The fight was Fought between Marathas under the Leadership of Shivaji Maharaj and the Mughals. This Battle is known for the Bravery and Guguerrilla Warfare Tactics utilized by Marathas against the Mughals.

Kartalab Khan of Mughals had accompanied an enormous armed force which comprised of thousands of ponies and weapons. Shivaji Maharaj and his military were at that point in the slopes that encompassed the Umberkhind where they were prepared and trusting that Khan and his military will plummet to the base of the pass. They were outfitted with rocks and stones and withdraws from. Despite the fact that the military comprised of around 1,000 men, the whole pass was secured with thick woods consequently Maratha armed force was not obvious to Khan and his military. Khan and his military descended to the base which was a strategy deliberately utilized by Shivaji Maharaj by giving him wrong data. When Khan arrived at the base of the pass, Shivaji's military started the fight, moving rocks down on Khan's military. They were panicked by the manner in which they were being assaulted by Maratha Forces and they were not ready to withdraw. At last, the fight was over in approximately a few hours. They had crushed the Mughal Army of approx 30000 or more.

Shivaji Maharaj consented to give Khan and his military a chance to leave Umberkhind and come back to Khan's command post in Pune gave that Khan and his military abandoned their gear including their weapons, steeds and nourishment, and permitted any individual who wished to do as such to join Shivaji's military.
